In a statement released by the NFF on its official Social Media Page, it was made known that Jose Peseiro, 61 Years of Age would take over from Interim Coach, Austin Eguavoen who is Expected to lead the Super Eagles all through Their stay in Cameroon at the AFCON before handing over to Peseiro who is now the permanent Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
The Statement released by the NFF reads:
"After careful consideration of a memo presented by Chairman of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee, the Executive Committee endorsed a proposal for the appointment of Mr Jose Peseiro as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, following the end to the relationship with Mr Gernot Rohr. However, the Committee resolved that Mr Augustine Eguavoen, named the interim Head Coach, will lead the Super Eagles to the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon with Mr Peseiro only playing the role of Observer. It was unanimously agreed that the AFCON is a good avenue for Mr Peseiro to launch a working relationship with Mr Eguavoen, who will revert to his role as Technical Director (hence Mr Peseiro’s immediate boss) after the [AFCON]"
Jose Peseiro with a vast experience in Coaching has been a coach for the past 29 years and has at a point in time coached top teams like Porto, Sporting CP, Braga and Ah Ahly. Peseiro was also an Assistant Head Coach in Real Madrid from 2003-2004. At the National level, Jose Peseiro has coached Venezuela and Saudi Arabia spending a Year with the South American side and 2 Years with the Asian Side.
The Gaffer has also enjoyed a couple of Successes, winning the Portuguese league Cup, Egyptian League title, Portuguese Second Division league Title and AF Madeira Cup. The Former Saudi Arabian National team Coach also led Porto to a second Place Finish in the UEFA cup.
