English Premier League Side, Watford has reached an agreement with Sparta Rotterdam over the Signing of Nigerian Goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye.

The 22 Years old Nigerian Shot-Stopper would be heading to the Vicarage road After the end of the Dutch Eredivisie season. 

Sparta Rotterdam who signed the Goalie in July 2020 has confirmed via their Official Website that a deal between the two clubs has been met and the Player will Join the Hornets.

An excerpt from Sparta Rotterdam's Official website Reads: 

Sparta Rotterdam has reached an agreement with Watford about the transfer of Maduka Okoye. The Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper still had a contract at Het Kasteel until 2025, but will not serve it out.
Confirming the deal, Technical Director of the team, Henk Van stee Admitted that it was Very certain to see Okoye leaving the team Soon due to his massive development Making him the team's First choice Shotstopper as well as the preferred Goalie in the National Team with Nigeria.

“We took over Maduka Okoye transfer-free from Fortuna Dusseldorf in the summer of 2020 and his development was stormy. It soon became apparent that Maduka was going to become the undisputed number 1 of Sparta and also of the Nigerian national team. Last summer we broke his contract until 2025, but both parties knew that an early departure would be very real.” Henk Van stee said

“Sparta would prefer to let Maduka go alone to a top competition. If Premier League clubs show interest, it will be very difficult for the club, player and agent to postpone a transfer. Then it is important for us to get the best possible conditions for Sparta and we believe that we have succeeded.” He added. 

“Agreement has been reached with Watford and that is important for our selection and sporting objective to remain in the Eredivisie. This is also important for Maduka because then he can gain even more experience at the highest level in the Netherlands and will be the first keeper of Nigeria to go to the Africa Cup in January," said Van Stee.

Watford FC is pleased to announce that it has reached agreement to sign highly-rated young goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, on a five-and-a-half year deal that will begin on January 1, 2022.
The Nigeria international joins the Hornets for an undisclosed fee from Eredivisie outfit Sparta Rotterdam, to where he will return on loan until the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

Reacting to the transfer, Maduka Okoye who is currently on International duties with Nigeria Revealed that he has had a contact with Watford Over the transfer before heading to the National team camp, he Made it clear that he is excited to get to play in the English premier league but right now he is focus on completing the season with Sparta Rotterdam.

“After the game against Willem II, I prepared myself for the international matches in Nigeria, but in the meantime I went to England to meet Watford. That went very quickly because I had to join the national team a day later." Maduka Okoye Said

"Of course I am very proud that I can play in the Premier League, but also that I can play at Het Kasteel for our fans until the end of the season. Of course I really wanted this, but I also want to close it well with Sparta and that is why this is the best choice.”

The Agreed fee for the Transfer Of Maduka Okoye is yet to be disclosed by the Club's technical Director.

“The only thing I can say about it is that it is an amount that cannot be refused for Sparta for an outgoing transfer. In any case, it is important that Maduka finishes the season on a rental basis at Sparta.” Henk Van stee Added.

Maduka Okoye has proven to be a reliable Goalkeeper, the Former Bayer Leverkusen Youth Player was Voted as Sparta Rotterdam's Best Player for the 2020/201 season.
