Former Bayer Leverkusen Striker Sidney Sam has admitted his regrets, Choosing to play for Germany Over Nigeria. Sam was born in Germany to a German Mother and a Nigerian Father.


It could be recalled that before the 2014 World Cup, the Nigerian Football Federation made advances toward Securing Sidney for the National team but he Declined the Offer and Accepted That of the German National team which he had represented at Lower Categories from U-19 to U-21.

Unfortunately for Sidney Sam, he couldn't make the Final 23 Man squad list for the 2014 Mundial released by German Coach, Joachim Low. The 32 years old Now regrets the Decision he took, Snubbing Nigeria for Germany.

“Looking back I can say I was close to winning the World Cup with Germany. Maybe I would have played in it if I had accepted the chance offered by Nigeria."He said as reported by Brila

Sidney Sam who currently plays in Austrian League has only been able to feature for the German National team Five times ever since.
