Newly signed Middlesbrough player, Uche Ikpeazu has opened up on his intentions to play for the Nigerian National team. 

The 26 years old striker was born in England to a Nigerian Father and a Ugandan mother which automatically makes him Eligible to play for either of Nigeria, Uganda or England.

Uche Ikpeazu who recently signed for English Championship side Middlesbrough from Wycombe Wanderers has opened on his desires to play for the Nigerian National team despite having previously handed a call up by Coach of the Ugandan National team for one of Ugandan's AFCON Qualifiers game in March, last year. 


Uche Ikpeazu's Chance of playing for the Ugandan National team last year was severely Affected due to the Covid 19 pandemic which led to world wide Lockdown. Other times he was invited to the Camp of the Ugandans, Uche Ikpeazu couldn't make it due to injuries.

Uganda have now been dumped out of AFCON and would not be taking part of the Competition by January next year. 

According to an Exclusive interview with Completesports, Uche Ikpeazu made it clear that he wants to play for the Nigerian National team.


According to him, "my mind is telling me to play for the national team of Nigeria, that is a fact and I believe that I can achieve that because I have got all the tools and the ability to go and do well for the Super Eagles."

Still Speaking further,Uche Ikpeazu opened up on his Relationship with Former Super Eagles Striker, Odion Ighalo.


"When I was in Nigeria, my good friend, Odion Ighalo was even convincing me that I should play for the Super Eagles with the ability that I have got.
Ighalo really believes in me, it is nice, you know that I have people of that magnitude who really believe in me and what I am about, I want to play for Nigeria, my name is Uche Ikpeazu.
I am a ‘Naija’ boy and that is what I want to do (play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria) and I believe that I can help the country."
