Chievo Verona's Attacking Midfielder Joel Obi has become the latest victim of Racism after a "Slave" remark was directed at him.

Chievo Verona took on Pisa in the Serie B, a Match which ended in a 2-2 draw. The Major highlight of the game came after full time when Pisa's Forward Michele Marconi directed a statement "the revolt of the slaves" towards Joel Obi as claimed by Chievo Verona in their Official Statement.


The Statement Reads:

Following the racist phrase "The revolt of the slaves" expressed by Pisa player Michele Marconi to midfielder Joel Obi during the first half of the match between Pisa and ChievoVerona, the club wishes to express its solidarity towards its player who was subjected to a slanderous attack and which has nothing to do with the most basic values of sport, ethics and respect.

A.C. ChievoVerona strongly condemns the racist behaviour Obi has suffered and regrets that an utterance heard by most of those on the pitch was not followed by any disciplinary measures from the match officials or indeed by the police.

A.C. ChievoVerona has always been a strong supporter of ethics, respect and fair play and will continue to be so, fighting against all forms of racism and violence both on and off the pitch.

Captain of the squad, Emanuele Giaccherini in an interview also condemned the racist comment targeted at Joel Obi.

Joel Obi has spent most of his Playing Career in Italy, Playing for Inter Milan,Torino, Parma and Now Chievo. He has also featured 17 times for the Nigerian Super Eagles since making his debut in 2011.
