The Year 2020 has been filled with lots of ups and down not just only in the footballing world but in every other sectors of the  world as well, especially with the outbreak of the Covid-19 Pandemic which posed a serious threats to Human Lives.

Irrespective of how things may have gone in the world in 2020, there are still a lot of positives to be picked. In our Article of today, we take a look at the Highs and Lows, the best and Worst of the Nigerian Super Eagles in the year 2020.

                                            HIGHS

⃟   NEW PLAYERS ADDED TO THE SQUAD: This Year saw some addition of New Talents into the squad to add to the squad depth and make the team and players more competitive. Players such as Kevin Akpoguma, Zaidu Sanusi, Samson Tijani, Chidera Ejuke and Cyriel Dessers all made their debuts in 2020

 ⃟   GERNOT ROHR CONTRACT RENEWAL: The Super Eagles Gaffer, Gernot Rohr in May this year signed a contract extension of 2 and a half years which sees him continue as coach of the team until his contract expires in 2022. For the remaining two years he has on his contract, Gernot Rohr has been tasked with the duty of ensuring that the Super Eagles qualifies for the AFCON 2021(Would be played from January to February 2022) as well as FIFA World Cup which would be hosted in 2022. Rohr has been the head coach of the National team since 2016, Managing 53 games, winning 29, drawing 14 and losing 10. He has a win rate of 54.72% for the National team.


⃟   AFCON QUALIFIERS GROUP TOPPERS: Nigeria would step into the New Year on top of Group "L" AFCON Qualifying table with eight points in their lasts 4 games

⃟   WIN RATE: Nigeria Played a total of 4 competitive games in 2020 and were unable to win in all of them, making it a 0% win rate. Nigeria drew thrice against  Tunisia (1-1),Sierra Leone (4-4, 0-0) and tasted defeat in the hands of Algeria(1-0).

⃟   FIFA WORLD RANKING: The Super Eagles of Nigeria Started the Year 2020 occupying the 31st Spot in FIFA World Ranking but an inconsistent display made them end the year in the 35th Position. The Super eagles retrogressed!


⃟   THE SIERRA LEONE HEARTBREAK: The game against Sierra Leone in AFCON qualifiers played in November this year would go down as one of the most heartbreaking in the history of Nigerian Football. Imagine going up 4-0 in the first 45 minutes and eventually ending the game 4-4. What a Collapse! That too, playing at home.

Despite some Positives, 2020 overall hasn't been a great year for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The team would continue their quest for AFCON Qualification when they square up against Benin Republic in March 2021. A win should guarantee the Super Eagles a ticket to Cameroon for the Competition Proper. We hope for a better 2021.
